Jonathan concedes victory, promises Buhari smooth transition

The incumbent and candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan, has
conceded defeat in the country's presidential
election.

Jonathan, according to reports on the British
Broadcasting Corporation, The Nation newspaper
and Daily Trust, has called his main challenger and
candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General
Muhammadu Buhari, by telephone to congratulate
him.

The Nation newspaper said Jonathan initiated the
call to Buhari at exactly 5:15pm on Tuesday.
Jonathan promised Buhari that he would cooperate
with him in the transition process.
He was said to have promised specifically to ensure a
smooth transition.
