South African Police Apprehend Suspect Accused of Wife's Murder

In South Africa, Sithembiso Wiseman Mlambo, a 49-year-old man, has been apprehended on suspicion of murdering his 39-year-old wife, Sithembile Joyce Mlambo.

KwaZulu-Natal police disclosed that Mlambo was intercepted by law enforcement authorities while en route to Ladysmith. The arrest took place on the N11 highway near the Collings Pass turn-off on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

This development occurred shortly after the police announced the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of the Osizweni resident.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the police spokesperson in KZN, on May 29, 2023, Sithembile Joyce Mlambo had returned home from work and was confronted by her husband. Mlambo was driving her vehicle in the Mndozo area when the suspect opened fire on her, tragically ending her life. She was still in her work uniform at the time of the incident, and she was declared deceased at the scene.

Sithembiso Wiseman Mlambo is scheduled to make a court appearance on Friday, October 13.

Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele has highlighted the police force's dedication to tracking down suspects, particularly those implicated in gender-based violence and femicide-related crimes, as part of Operation Shanela. He explained that law enforcement is conducting routine roadblocks, stop-and-search operations, and actively pursuing wanted suspects.
