Wages Commission will increase corps members allowance – NYSC D.G



Director General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Major General, Sule Zakari Kazaure  on  Monday affirmed that corps members monthly allowance would be increased in line with the increment in national workers’ wage.
Speaking during the 2019 Batch ‘A’ orientation camp held at Sagamu, Ogun State, Kazaure who was represented by Ag Director, Corps Welfare, Mr Abdul Rasheed Sanusi said: ”We have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the wages commission that each time salaries of the public servant are increased, that of the corps members too will take a very relative position.

According to him, the issue of whether or not corps members wage would be increased from N18,000 is a settled issue, adding, ”There is no doubt about that, it is going to be done by the grace of God.”
However, the DG who maintained that the increment would be effected along side with other workers’, did not disclose when it would commence and which batch of corps members that will start receiving the minimum wage.
Kazaure who seized the opportunity of his visit to camp, toured the kitchen and examine the quality of food given to corps members stated that the feeding standard at the Sagamu Orientation Camp met the standard recommendation of the NYSC headquarters.
He said: ”In times of food and facilities this camp is far above average. This is my first time of coming here since this camp was moved to the permanent camp. ”The last time I came here was in 1996, when the camp was at the old Teachers College somewhere in the centre of the town.”
Earlier, the Ogun State, NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Belinda Faniyi while addressing the 2019 Batch A
corps members said a total of 2,498 were admitted to the Shagamu camp.
According to him, out of the 2,498 corps members on camp, 1,267 were males and 1,231 were females. ”Out of the 1,231, 25 of the corps members are nursing mother,” she said.
She urged them to seize the opportunity of the 21 days orientation camp to equipped themselves with the needed skills that would better their future.
She said: ”What we are giving you as far as skills acquisition is concerned here is not enough to make you entrepreneurs. But immediately after camp as adults, we expect you to better your lots from the various skills acquisition training you receive here.
